Ahead of the September governorship election in Edo State, aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been storming the national secretariat of the party to collect nominations forms as well as unveiling their programmes for the people.
Those who came during the week included Major Gen. Charles Airhiavbere (rtd), Mr. Kenneth Imansuangbon and Mr.Blessing Agbomehere.
One of the aspirants, Imansuangbon, promised to arm youths with jobs if he wins the number one seat in the state comeSeptember 10, this year.
Speaking at the party’s National Secretariat when he came to obtain his nomination and declaration of interest form, Imansuangbon said he will engage all Edo youths to alleviate poverty in the state.
”I’m running because I believe that the Edo people need an experienced person to create jobs.
Boys and girls must be taken off the streets and to do this, you need an experienced hand from the private sector. What made America great was not the guns or nuclear weapons they have, but the ability to feed every American.
“I will be the number one chief farmer in Edo State, I will create farm industries. I will make everyone a farmer.
“I am known as the rice man but this year, we will create rice farms, rice plantation, close to the sea which is my local government.
“We will make juice of all kinds, tomato paste, and of course bread. Everybody will be busy, meaning that crime will reduce. Rather than arm the police I will arm the youth with jobs”, he stressed.
The aspirant also declared his intention to ensure massive job creation, strengthen the schools and generally improve upon the ”successes of Gov. Adams Oshiomhole”.
On the issue of zoning, the aspirant said: ”I’m not an apostle of zoning. The world today needs the very best to be in government.
”We need the new. I’m glad the party does not encourage zoning. It is weak politicians that are fanning the members on zoning but if you are credible, pick the form and contest. On the flip side, I believe in equity. By law, Osunbor was never a governor and so we have not had our turn. The north has ruled for eight years and the south has ruled for almost 20 years”, he asserted.
He thanked the National party chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun for his wisdom in constituting the fact finding and reconciliation committee to wade into the Edo crisis saying the party was now ”more united now than ever and the PDP can fold its umbrella”.
Also speaking to newsmen, another aspirant, Gen. Airhiavbere (rtd), who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2012 governorship election told newsmen after picking his form that he had pledged his loyalty to the party.
He said: ”Election will be peaceful, the party is supreme and I have pledged my loyalty to the party. The party will come out with a candidate that will flog the PDP in Edo State. We are the strong ones in the state and we have moved”.
Also, Agbomehere described as “analogue”, all the achievements of the incumbent governor, Adams Oshiomhole saying he, (aspirant) is out to bring modernity to governance.
He also boasted that if elected he would trash the governor’s achievements of eight years.
“The present governor of the state has tried what he can but if I become the governor, I will trash Oshiomhole’s record. Most of the achievements of Governor Oshiomhole we see in Edo today are analogue, when I become the governor I will bring modernity to governance in Edo State.
“In Nigeria and in Edo State, we have tried the elderly and we have seen what they have done. I believe my nomination and engagement will mean engagement for good governance and it will be an engagement for the youths and it will give opportunity for the youths”, adding: “From my personal experience most articulate economy in the world are driven by the youths”.
Agbomehere who pride himself as the youngest aspirant as he claimed he would be 37 in July, however said, “Most of the innovative achievements in the world today is piloted by young people who have the strength and energy to engage in creative thinking as well as bring to manifestation the result of their imaginative thinking to physical manifestation”.
He added that when elected governor, he would establish a construction company with a name Edo Construction Company (ECC) to engage the teeming unemployed youths in the state.
Agbomehere lamented that with the huge deposit of mineral resources in the state, it ought to be the richest state in the country and issues of road construction should not be among government discourse in the age of the state.
