A Dutse Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Friday sentenced a 38-year-old welder, Micheal Ali, to 11 months imprisonment for stealing 27 wristwatches and N1,800.
Ali, a resident of Sabongari in Bwari, was charged with criminal trespass, house breaking and theft.
The presiding officer, Ado Ahmed, convicted Ali after he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Ahmed sentenced Ali to 10 months for trespass, 11 months for house breaking and 11 months for theft, which he said, would run concurrently.
He, however, gave the convict option of N5,000 fine for trespass, N6, 000 for house breaking and another N6, 000 for theft.
The Prosecuting counsel, Mrs Agnes Aluko-Adewumi, had told the court that the defendant criminally trespassed and broke into the house of Onu Ike of Zango in Bwari.
She said that the convict broke the toilet window and entered the house of the complainant.
Aluko-Adewumi added that Ali made away with lady handbag containing 27 wristwatches each valued at N3, 500 amounting to N94,500 and N1, 800 cash.
She said that the convict was caught, adding that during police investigation, Ali could not give a satisfactory account of the items.
The counsel said the offences contravened Sections 342, 346 and 286 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
