Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has been accused by the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), of playing party politics rather than focusing on precautionary measures that will save the lives of Plateau people.
The PDP in a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, John Akans and a copy sent to our correspondent on Tuesday, said the current crisis rocking the APC leadership gives Gov. Lalong sleepless night, instead of the scourge that is gradually creeping into the country.”Other State governors are providing precautionary measures, allocating funds, erecting and equipping isolation centers, all in preparation to combat the pandemic should it escalate, but the Governor Lalong is rather busy with the current crisis rocking the APC leadership”, the PDP said.
The statement which called on Lalong and the APC to value the lives of Plateau citizens also advised him to take serious and comprehensive measures to safeguard the innocent people of Plateau.
It reads in part: “since the outbreak of this deadly virus which has ravaged the world and has been declared a global pandemic by the United nation (WHO), the Plateau State government has not made public any statement on measures being taken by government to provide facilities to avert, test nor handle this pandemic in case of any outbreak in the State, like other states have done.
“Consequently we are justified to conclude that this resounding silence from Governor Lalong, is a clear evidence of failure in leadership & governance of his State which he has instead place more value on the crisis of his party the APC.
“With this attitude it is clear that the APC as a party does not understand the monumental magnitude of what this virus scourge is all about.
“To us, we believe that protecting people’s lives at a time like this is bigger than any party crisis”, Akans said.
