COREN warns against engaging quacks

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has warned against patronizing anybody parading himself as an engineer without duly registering with the body that regulates compliance with engineering standards in the country.
A member of the council and Deputy Director, Inspectorate, Federal
Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Engr. Battah Ndirpaya who gave the warning, at the weekend, in Abuja, said some Nigerian universities produced fake engineers.
Engr. Ndirpaya, attributed the inability of the universities to meet accreditation requirements of COREN and other relevant bodies as reason the universities produced low quality graduates of engineering.
He warned that anybody who engages an unregistered engineer to execute a project is patronising quack, adding: “If a professional is not registered with his professional body, he is a quack; quacks are people who are not practising according to the ethics of COREN.
He maintained that it was the duty of the client to insist that the person he was engaging was registered with a professional body”.
