The Social Democratic Party, SDP Thursday berated Abia State government over the dirty condition of the state, particularly Umuahia, stating that the party has set up a war to fight bad governance in the state.
Speaking in Umuahia while starting off the registration of and drive for membership in the state, the steering Committee chairman, and former APC chieftain, Hon Chidi Nwosu regretted that the state Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu had since coming into office, travelled outside the country 58 times, while allowing the state to be taken over by refuse heaps to turn the state into “a city of refuse”.
“The state is polluted with undisposed refuse. This is a horrendous situation and people are dying every day because of the effect of this situation. Few days ago, refuse took over Okpara Square (in Umuahia) until a bulldozer was used to push it over.
“Government officials are attending ballroom dance happily while people suffer in the state. Salaries and pensions are not paid”, he said pointing out that in all surrounding states, night life has improved but in the state, it is nothing to write home about.
“Clamping down on keke drivers makes no meaning as there is no transport system in the state”, he also pointed out stating that SDP is now in the state to promote social justice to every Abian because “we are going to win the election” in the state.
Hon Nwosu who was a former APC chieftain in the state also disclosed that while in the APC, he did not see any good thing in the party except big names only” that will not make the difference”.
He described the party’s steering committee as a replication of “not too young to rule”, adding that the youths in the country should take over leadership.
He said SDP is “looking for a messiah to salvage the country and Abia state, no matter where the messiah comes from”, stating that the party is not in support of zoning, pointing out “zoning breeds mediocrity and it is this system that brought in the state government”.
He disclosed that the new SDP is the same as the old one, stating that they are only harmonizing.
The challenges the party has in the state now he said, is the control of influx of new members mentioning that in Ekiti State, the party is carrying the day.
Addressing faithful later, Hon Nwosu said “SDP is going to be a mass movement that is going to deliver Nigeria and Abia State. Those distracting us will no more be seen”, and called on them to look out for only prominent members of the party to be registered.
