The Benin monarch, Oba Ewuare II, has condemned the leadership tussle that rocked the Edo State House of Assembly on Monday.
He described it as irresponsible, immature and barbaric, stressing that the violence was capable of underminding the interest of the citizens of the state.
The monarch in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Desmond Agbama, opined that the use of fisticuffs among members was a signed of desperation for power instead of being thinking of how to formulate policies that would of a great benefit to the generality of the public.
“I watched with great disappointment the throwing of chairs and the use of fisticuffs among members of the Assembly and it does not portray them as Honourable Members as it is a sign of desperation for power”, he said.
He cautioned the lawmakers to be democratic in their dealings and to aways observed the rule of law in order to show good leadership examples to their followers.
He further charged them to abide by the principle of fair play and equal justice for all in their dealings.
