Bayelsa insecurity: Dickson accuses Sylva, Lokpobiri of arming militants

Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State on Thursday accused former governor of the state, Chief Timipre Sylva and the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri of arming criminals to destabilize the state.

The Governor particularly alleged that Lokpobiri was the one who “armed and equipped” the militant who allegedly killed and beheaded a security official in Toru Ndoro in Ekeremor Local Government area.

Gov. Dickson who spoke at the Banquet Hall in Government House while presenting the monthly Transparency Briefing for the months of November and December2017 urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call the two of his party leaders in the state to order.

Dickson said, “I want to call on political leaders of Bayelsa; they should stop destabilizing the security of this state. They should stop playing politics with law and order in our communities.

“They should stop what they are doing by arming criminals and terrorists. I had issued statements before calling on the President of the federal republic to call his party leaders in this state to order, especially his minister of state, Senator Lokpobiri who is the one that has armed and equipped the Karowee that has now killed soldiers and killed military people and subjected innocent communities to these problems”.

The Governor further alleged that it is common knowledge in the communities that it was Lokpobiri who supplied the AK 47 guns and boats they said Karowee was using to kill and terrorize people.

“I have evidence that by 2nd or 3rd of January this month, this Karowee and his killers were in Ekeremor celebrating with Lokpobiri and that is Mr. President’s minister of state!

“And Timipre Sylva! The President should call this his two party, so called leaders who as far as I am concerned are common criminals and terrorists.

“Political leaders work for stability. You play your politics when election comes. You don’t need to arm young boys, give them cocaine, give them other drugs, give them weapons and then use the president’s name and the name of your party to intimidate law enforcement agencies.

“Now let me make it clear, whether Lokpobiri and Sylva like it or not, I and the people of this state will never allow Bayelsa State to be turned into blood bath like other states”, the Governor vowed.

He used the occasion to review the successes his administration has made in the last six years, and promised that in 2018, emphasis will be on sponsoring entrepreneurship program and mass housing for the people of the state.

Dickson commended the people of the state for their loyalty and support in the last six years and urged them not to relent.
