Baga: Theatre Commander tasks triumphant troops to sustain combat spirit

The theatre command of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, has tasked troops to sustain high combat spirit to end Boko Haram insurgency and restore peace to the North-east. Maj. -Gen. Benson Akinroluyo, the Theatre Commander, made the appeal when he visited the troops The Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, announced this in a statement on Sunday. Baga is in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno. Akinroluyo conveyed a special commendation message of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, to the courageous troops over the defeat of the terrorists. The Commander also praised the gallant troops for the reclaiming Baga and the adjourning communities. “The COAS is particularly pleased with recent victory over the insurgents and the operational successes in the general area of Baga and the adjoining villages. “I urge you to be relentless and decisive in combating the insurgents, no inch of Nigerian territory should be occupied by the terrorists. “I also enjoin you to sustain the tempo of the operation and maintain high morale to consolidate on the successes so far recorded in the clearance operations,’’ Akinroluyo said. He reiterated the commitment of the military authorities to the improvement of the troops’ welfare, noting that the Army’s leadership accorded priority to their welfare. He said the troops wounded in the ongoing operations were receiving adequate medical attention and wished them quick recovery. Akinroluyo was, during the visit, accompanied by Maj.- Gen. Saka Bolaji, Minna The immediate past Deputy Governor and Ambassador to South Africa, Ahmed Musa Ibeto has returned to the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC). Ibeto had earlier decamped to contest the Niger state governorship under the banner of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). However he lost to the youthful former Environment commissioner in the state, Mohammed Umar Nasko. The former Ambassador led the pack of other governorship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who lost in the same PDP primaries, to rejoin the APC last Saturday at the flag off of the party’s gubernatorial campaign. Among the defectors include Alhaji Mohammed Baka, Alhaji Hannafi Sudan and Alhaji Dogo Koli, all were aspirants in the PDP governorship primaries. Ibeto had resigned his appointment as the Ambassador to South Africa and defected to the PDP to contest for the governorship candidature but lost to Honorable Umar Nasko. Ibeto and the other defectors were received by the APC Deputy National Chairman during the APC Governorship flag off campaign held at the trade fair complex in Minna. Addressing the crowd, Ibeto, a former Deputy Governor of the state, said “We have returned home”, while assuring to work for the success of the party in the forthcoming elections. “We will work to ensure the overwhelming success of APC in February and March elections. Just as we did in the past, we will repeat the success. Niger state will be captured by APC. ” In his address, the state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello promised to continue the work he has started in the state. The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, pledged on behalf of President Mohammadu Buhari, to revamp all federal roads in the state. Osinbajo also promised the administration of the APC will ensure the completion of the dredging of Baro port aimed at improving the economic fortunes of the state. On his part, the Director General, Buhari Campaign Council, Rotimi Amaechi, assured the federal government will expedite action on the Lagos to Kano railway that will bring about the much needed dividend of democracy to the people Amaechi pleaded with Nigerlites to give their massive votes to President Buhari and all APC candidates in February and March general elections for accelerated growth and development of the country.
