The result that declared Governor Jonah Gang as the winner of the Northern Senatorial Zone of Plateau State was, on Tuesday, rejected by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial candidate, Mrs Eunice Ayisa Sambo, who contested against the governor.
Daily Times observed that trouble ensued when Governor Jang was declared winner of the polls with a total number of 250,666 votes, as against 226,743 scored by Mrs Sambo, as the APC agent supervising the polls refused to sign the result.
Mrs Eunice, while addressing the Press in protest against the result, on Tuesday at the NUJ Press Centre, said: “We received the results and also the declarations of the results; we also received briefings from our agents from across the constituencies, polling units, wards, and we have issues with some of this areas.
“The Plateau North Senatorial Zone where, as you are aware at the collation center, issues came up in relation to the massive irregularities associated with the results of some of the areas. We have been briefed adequately by the Returning Officer (R0) and even when one of it was entertained, it was not implemented by the Senate Returning Officer in the Person of Prof. Rotgak Iliya Gofwen.
“And due to all of these and some other irregularities associated with the processes and validity, our agents refused to sign the final result that declared the winner for the Northern Senatorial Zone,” she posited.
Mrs Eunice said she would be heading to the tribunal to challenge the result, and would explore all legal processes to see that she attained justice.
She urged her supporters to remain calm, as they go through the guber and state houses of Assembly election coming up in a fortnight.
