Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Thursday accepted an offer to help raise funds toward the establishment of a Mobile Cancer Centre for treatment of people who require such treatment.
Ambode accepted the offer when a delegation of the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP), led by its Convener, Mrs Adetutu Adeleke paid him a courtesy visit in Ikeja.
He said that the establishment of the cancer centre in Lagos would be of great benefit to the people.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that CECP is co-promoted by the core bodies of the Organised Private Sector (OPS).
Its main aim is to complement the development effort of the government by promoting the practice of collective philanthropy.
The CECP has also been at the vanguard of galvanising individuals and corporate organisations toward donating for the building of Mobile Cancer Crescents across the country.
Ambode said the major driving philosophy of his administration was to selflessly serve humanity, especially by lifting people from their challenges.
He lauded the initiative, saying his personal philosophy and personality was all about making life meaningful to the people and making positive impact in the society.
The governor described the initiative of the group as very laudable and selfless considering the focus on the health sector.
“I am assuring you of my readiness and commitment to support the cause which the CECP has decided to take on, especially in raising funds toward the building of a Mobile Cancer Centre in Lagos.
“The initiative which you have taken, especially on the health sector, is laudable and I have no other reason than to complement, support and also practically do everything to touch our people positively,” he said.
Earlier, Adeleke thanked Ambode for his good works in the state and urged him to support the group in its drive to either totally eradicate or reduce cancer to the barest minimum.
She said the governor would be inaugurated as the Patron of the CECP on June 14 to raise funds for the Mobile Cancer Unit. (NAN)
