Daily Times gathered that the Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu at the weekend met the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, in Lagos to introduce his running mate, Mr. Lucky Ayedatiwa.
Akeredolu, who announced the meeting via his Twitter handle, said he also met with the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The meeting is coming barely 10 weeks to the Ondo governorship election.
Akeredolu is expected to slug it out with 16 other candidates, as confirmed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which on Friday unveiled a list of 17 governorship aspirants, to actualise his second term ambition.
He tweeted: “Today, I visited our leader @AsiwajuTinubu and my brother @jidesanwoolu to formally introduce my Deputy Governor-designate and consult with them for the forthcoming election in Ondo State. We are one in @OfficialAPCNg and our party is stronger than ever.”
Before the Ondo State governorship primary, there were speculations that Tinubu was opposed to the second term ambition of Akeredolu. Tinubu had since denied the allegation.
In a statement, Tinubu said all he desired was a free, fair, and credible primary that “is run according to the dictates of internal democracy and are devoid of bias for or against any candidate.”
Akeredolu had last week announced the choice of Ayedatiwa as his running mate for the forth coming governorship election on Wednesday.
The governor made the announcement of the choice of Ayedatiwa, who hails from Ilaje Local Government in Ondo South and a former representative of the state on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), at a ceremony to swear in Mr Idowu Otetubi as Commissioner for Natural Resources, and Mr Summy-Smart Francis as Special Adviser on Entrepreneurship Development.
Ayedatiwa, is to replace the former Deputy governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi who recently defected from the ruling APC to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
