Activist Challenges Igbo Politicians on Igbo Presidency

As the scheming for the 2019 presidential election intensify, pro-democracy and human right activist, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, has called on the Igbo political class to work hard to achieve the Nigeria president of an Igbo extraction.

Ezekwueme who is the Chairman of Civil Liberties Organization (CLO) in Anambra State said the great tribute Igbo political elites can pay to late Dr. Alex Ekwueme ,former Vice-president of the country was to work assiduously to relies Nigerian President of Igbo extraction.

Ezekwueme who spoke when the leadership of Anambra state MOralist organization paid him courtesy call said “I wish to solicit for support of all and sundry in our collective efforts to ensure the election of president of an Igbo extraction at the end of President Muhammadu BuharI’s tenure as was done to the South west in 1999, when Chief Olusegun Obasanjo ran for PDP and Olu Falae flew the Flag of AD/APP for president of Nigeria. Igbo political elites should close ranks and pursue vigorously and religiously this president of an Igbo extraction as the greatest tribute to Dr. Alex Ekwueme”.

He called on Obasanjo to ensure that power come to the Igbo nation after Buhari’s presidency since he has assumed the conscience of the nation and the leader of new Nigeria.

But he said this cannot be possible without Ndigbo revolutionaliasing their political culture , stressing that the long overdue election of president of Igbo extraction will be a mirage if urgent steps were not taken to educate our people on the need for them to get involved in electoral process.

He described what he called low demand for public accountability and abdication of citizen’s constitutional duty to vote and be voted for.

The CLO boss lamented that civil society groups in the country so soon retired to their shells immediately democracy retuned to Nigeria for the hawks to take over the country, saying that it is their duty to build a nation that works and to that extent .

He commended Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state for his resolve to disengage the services of corrupt officials in his government, stating that this move was in agreement with CLO’s call for zero tolerance for corruption in the state and the country in general.

CLO he said had called for an investigation into the allocation and utilization of N20m and N10m for communities and markets in the state as well as incessant multiple revenue agents, extortion, exploitation inspite of the governor’s directives against such .

Earlier the convener of Anambra Moralist Group Rev Jude Enemuochukwu extolled the contributions of Ezekwueme in his selfless sacrifices to ensure justices and rule of law to all .

He said the main objective of the group was to inculcate moral values, fear of God and egalitarianism into the society even as he condemned the monetization of polities in the state and the country in general which will make it impossible for a moralist to win.
