Accord Party and eight other political parties in Delta State have adopted the State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, as the sole candidate for the 2019 Governorship Election.
It was reliably gathered that Governor Okowa and his teeming supporters in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have allegedly threatened to move into Accord Party if the Supreme Court judgment on Ali-modu Sheriff and Senator Makafi PDP crisis goes in favour of Ali-modu Sheriff.
Although, no official statements had been made so far on the alleged decision of Okowa and his teeming supporters, but the Governor’s top media aide who did not want his name in the print confirmed that the Governor and his supporters would go the way of Accord Party if the supreme Court decision is nothing to write home about in judgment.
He said: “We will all move into Accord Party to win our elections, we will not work with Sheriff, we did it recently in Warri South West bye election through Accord Party where Accord won; the governor is very ready to go the way of Accord Party”
Investigation revealed that top aides of the governor who believe in the interest of Accord Party had since the victory in Warri South West for the party, commenced mobilization of supports for the party in what they described as “plan B’ option in case the Supreme Court disappoint them.
While Mr. Victor Ochei of the All Progressive Congress Party (APC), is reportedly mobilizing supports for his party to ensure he emerges as the party’s governorship flag bearer for 2019, the PDP makafi led faction members have resolved at their last meeting held in Asaba last weekend to give APC massive sweeping through Accord Party.
Expectedly, Governor, Okowa was alleged to have “wasted” over N30 billion on the Warri South West constituency election and ensured the Accord candidate won.
But the State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah in a swift reaction, dispelled as untrue the allegation, affirming that the State PDP members and Accord Party members relate very well.
The State Chairman of Accord Party, Mr. David Ashikodi who spoke to journalists Thursday in Asaba on the synergy between his party (Accord) and Governor Okowa, disclosed that the move by PDP Makafi led faction in the state to be part of Accord Party, was part of the undying faith of the party in the governor and his administration.
He said that the decision to adopt Dr. Okowa by his party including other eight political parties, was informed by his transparent and accessible governance, adding that the eight other political parties would also ensure Okowa is their only candidate for 2019.
Describing the governor as one who does not believe in “blowing his trumpet”, even though there may be some criticisms from uninformed persons, Mr. Ashikodi said Okowa’s provision of basic infrastructure and dividend of democracy in the last two years to Deltans, speaks volumes.
He explained that the State Government under the leadership of Dr. Okowa had turned the state into a huge economic state, particularly with the construction of roads in various parts of the state in accordance with his prosperity agenda.
His words: “Okowa deserves the second term through Accord Party, we have agreed that he is our sole candidate, so also eight other political parties which will not expose now till the time comes; we adopted Okowa in accordance with our party rules/constitutions”.
