Okezuo Abia Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State says over 500 rural women have benefitted from a ₦10,000 monthly empowerment stipend introduced by a Foundation.
Coordinator of the organization, Hon. Kelechi Aguiyi, who disclosed this to newsmen shortly after Okezuo Abia Women prayer meeting held at Umuahia South council secretariat hall on Monday, stated that the meeting began two years ago primarily to assist less privileged mothers in the rural areas.
Hon. Aguiyi pointed out the prayer meeting which started with no less than 50 mothers has increased to over 500, as according to him, it cuts across aged mothers from divergent groups regardless church denominations and party affiliations.
He added the monthly prayer meeting was specifically designed to seek God’s intervention in the midst of the nation’s recession as well to pray for those in authority from local governments, State and the nation as a whole.
Hon. Kelechi Aguiyi further disclosed that apart from primary initiation, the gathering also affords the opportunity for mothers to come under an umbrella and form groups aimed at achieving cooperate objectives.
While he challenged other Government appointees and stakeholders from his community to render assistance to rural mothers, the coordinator noted Governor Okezie Ikpeazu cannot do all alone but looking forward to those he appointed into various sectors to assist in that direction just as he appreciated the Governor for his numerous breakthroughs in all sectors in the state, declaring that there is no vacant position in governorship seat of the state come 2019 to enable the Governor to consolidate his achievements recorded so far.
The coordinator assured the mothers that he would sustain the monthly prayer meetings and thanked other spirited individuals and well-wishers who have indicated interest to join hands with him in the project.
Also speaking, women leader of the group, Lady (Mrs.) Ihechiluru Nwosu, said it will be difficult for mothers to forget Hon. Kelechi Aguiyi in a hurry considering his support on them.
Some beneficiaries among whom are Madam Chinwendu Madu and Madam Odinaka Okwuchi prayed God to sustain the coordinator, his group and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and his wife for their care towards less privileged mothers and children in the society.
