The wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Nkechi IKpeazu, on Thursday, commissioned the 36th, 37th and 38th bungalows she built for indigent widows across the state since two years her husband became the state governor.
The buildings were at Obingwa and Ugwunnagbo local government areas, while the beneficiaries were Madam Edith Peter Nwosu of Umudiogu village, in Ngbokom Umuori of Ngbokoriefula of Obingwa LGA; Madam Rachael Onyeukwu Nwokoh of Ihie Etiti in Ugwunnagbo and Madam John Ugwuala of Osusuaku.
Speaking during the occasions, the wife of the governor said the essence of the buildings was to ensure that democracy dividend gets to the downtrodden, who ordinarily may not feel the impact of the administration and governance at the state level.
Though her office does not control any financial votes, she said through her Vicar Hope Foundation (VHF) she intends to get down to the grassroot and wipe away the tears in the eyes of the indigent in the society, widows and the sick.
Funding of her pet project, she said is not easy but appreciated the governor of the state and other well-meaning Abians for their immense help in sustaining the organisation.
The Abia First Lady used the opportunity to appeal to public spirited individuals to help in assisting the needy in Abia society, stating that her pet project also undertakes medical assistance and more.
The bungalows, she said, would go a long way to alleviate the shelter problems of the beneficiaries.
Speaking during the occasions, the chairman of Umudiogu village in Ngbokom Umuori of Ngbokoriefula of Obingwa LGA, Mr. Blessing Chigbo; Chairperson, Golden Mothers, Ijeoma Ngozi; HRH Eze Matthias Ngozi Nwosu, the Eze Udo II of Ngbokoriefula;
Obingwa LGA chairman, Hon. Hanson Amaechi; his Ugwunnagbo counterpart, Eze Nwanganga and the member representing Obingwa West in the state House of Assembly, Barrister Thomas Nkoro, thanked the Abia First Lady for her gesture, assuring her of the support of Obingwa and Ugwunnagbo people over her husband’s second term bid, come 2019.
In an exclusive interview with The Abia Times, a faithful of Golden Mothers and member, Okezie pro-group, Madam Favour Ernest, said that if any of the beneficiaries had high blood pressure,
that it will now go down with the gesture of Nkechi Ikpeazu, stating that the gesture is a sure way of getting the people of the local government areas to vote Governor Ikpeazu again.
She prayed God to replenish the First Lady and bless her family.
