The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed a 37-man caretaker committee to pilot the affairs of the party in Anambra state.
The committee is headed by a onetime Minister of Health, Prof ABC Nwosu.
A former minister of women affairs, Mrs. Josephine Aneni, would serve as the secretary.
Inaugurating the committee at the party secretariat on Tuesday in Abuja, the Chairman, National Caretaker Committee, NCC, of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi charged them to work with all members of the party in the state towards winning the forth coming governorship election in November.
The state executive had on the July 27, dissolved the parallel executives of the party in the state.
Makarfi said that it would not be business as usual adding that the forth coming election in November would prove that Anambra state is purely a PDP state and the party has resolved to take back the state.
He said that the committee led by Nwosu would nominate the caretaker committee for the Wards and local government areas in the state.
Makarfi expressed satisfaction with how the nomination of the committee members.
The caretaker chairman, Prof ABC Nwosu, thanked the leadership of the PDP for bestowing confidence in them assuring that they would reconcile all aggrieved members in the state.
Nwosu said that they would nominate the local government and the wards caretaker committee members in line with the party constitution.
Terms of reference of the committee include; running the affairs of the party in the state to organizing and effective gubernatorial election in Anambra state. Makarfi stressed that the caretaker committee shall function as de facto and de jure executive of the PDP in Anambra state.
The committee shall constitute subject to approval of NCC and inaugurates local government and ward caretaker committee throughout the state and mobilize them effectively to restore the popularity of the PDP in the state.
Also, to ensure discipline of members as required in line with the party constitution to deal with anti-party activities that shall hinder the successful execution of the Anambra state gubernatorial election.
The committee shall also liaise with national organ of the party to raise necessary finance for the state gubernatorial election.
They shall also undertake any other matter for which it shall seek permission from the national caretaker committee to facilitate the successful execution of its mandate.
He warned that any form of indiscipline would be met with adequate sanction, warning “anybody that work against the party will not be allowed to remain in the party.”
In his acceptance speech, Nwosu thanked the national executives of the party for given them the opportunity to serve assuring that the committee would work hard to reclaim Anambra state to the PDP.
Nwosu said that the members of the committee see their appointment as a call to duty to restore Anambra state to its preeminence as a PDP state.
“We pledge to abide by the constitution of the party and enthrone internal democracy, which is one of the founding ideals of our great party. We shall endeavor to keep the front door open so as to discourage those who are used to using back doors and other means. Our mantra shall be that the front door works better,” he said.
He recalled that at the inception of PDP, Anambra state was the strongest hold of the party. He said that they shall keep the front door open saying, “the front door works better” calling on the members who have decamped to return to the party.
He noted that winning an incumbent governor is not easy but they were certain that the PDP will win the governorship come November 28.
He said he would not see himself as chairman but simply the captain of the ship to reclaim anambra back to the PDP.
The caretaker secretary, Mrs Josephine Aneni in her remarks assured the national leadership of the party that they would deliver Anambra state to PDP come November.
She called on all aggrieved members of the PDP in the state to return saying, ” PDP belongs to all.”
