A pressure group, Noble Youths Mass Support Association (NYMSA), has urged Nigerians to vote credible leaders in the 2019 general elections.
The National Coordinator of the group, Mr Godwin Onmonya, made this call on Thursday an interview with journalists in Kuje, Abuja.
According to him, the electorate must not overlook the credibility of the candidates vying for the various elective offices under any political party.
“We have a political system that is not working and it is time we change our orientation and see how governance should better our society.
“We must not elect leaders based on religion, tribe or ethnicity but leaders with integrity and competence, who have the interest of the people at heart.
“Before you vote for a candidate, make sure you interact with the person and know what he has for the people and not empty promises,” he said.
The coordinator advised all the party officials to ensure the emergence of credible leaders through free and transparent elections for the development of the country.
Onmonya also called for a peaceful co-existence of Nigerians irrespective of their different backgrounds, saying that”it is only in the atmosphere of peace that the national goals can be realised”.
According to him, the role of religion in governance is important but Nigerians must be wary of the people, who always use it to impede nation building.
