The All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Leader in Enugu State, Mrs Oby Nwofor, has urged women to ensure the success of female candidates irrespective of party affiliations.
Nwofor made the call in an interview with journalists in Enugu on Friday.
The woman leader said that women needed to support their own in the 2019 general elections to increase their number in decision making positions.
Two women in the state chapter of the APC including the Special Adviser to the President on Judicial Reform Sector, Mrs Juliet Ibekaku-Nwagwu won nominations to contest the forthcoming general elections.
According to her, Ibekaku-Nwagwu’s impressive credentials and doggedness should be able to defeat the Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu and represent Enugu West Senatorial District in 2019.
She described the successes of Ibekaku-Nwagwu and other female aspirants on the platform of APC as “significant” in the just concluded party primaries, adding that the women wing of the party was proud of their performances.
“I want to commend all the women that participated in the primaries and would want to see a woman retire Ekweremadu after spending 16 years in the Red Chambers.
“We request every woman in the state to canvass support for female contestants irrespective of party affiliations for our voices to be heard.
